The Vista Vein Project – The First Underground Mine at Twin Creeks

Newmont’s Vista Vein Project is located in the bottom of the Vista Pit at the Twin Creeks Mine in Humboldt County, Nevada. Phase 1 of this project consisted of establishing surface infrastructure, portal, and driving 1,700 feet of exploration drift and drill stations. SMD crews completed this work in the first half of 2011. We demobilized mid-year.

An exploration drilling program verified the presence of an ore body that could be mined underground. We mobilized back to the Vista Vein site in early 2012 to begin development of this important project. Work outlined for 2012 consists of developing a decline and level accesses to allow extraction of the ore. In addition, more permanent infrastructure will be established to facilitate mining of the Vista Vein.

The Twin Creeks Mine has a great history of working safely and efficiently. SMD is excited to be part of this great team of professionals and is looking forward to bringing them into underground production safely.
